Be Present this Christmas
The Transport Accident Commission and Victoria Police are working together to make sure every Victorian will Be Present this Christmas.
Throughout December and into the New Year, our lives become increasingly busy and so do our roads.
As people enjoy the sunshine and travel the state visiting friends and family, we see an increase in road traffic, people walking on or near roads, motorbike riders and cyclists, making it a high-risk time on our roads.
Research shows that most crashes occur in high-speed, rural locations and typically involve higher proportions of vehicle passengers, women and children.
Working hand-in-hand with the TAC, Victoria Police will be out in force on the state’s roads as part of their Regional Enforcement initiative, targeting speed, distraction and drink and drug driving.
Be Present at Carols by Candlelight
To help get the word out, the TAC will have a range of activities at Carols by Candlelight events across the state including a giant inflatable present. Find out where your closest event will be held:
- Warrnambool - Friday, December 2
- Geelong - Saturday, December 3
- Horsham - Sunday, December 4
- Flemington Carols - Friday, December 9
- Sorrento - Sunday, December 11
- Ballarat - Sunday, December 18
A Be Present booth will also be stationed at The City of Melbourne’s annual Christmas Festival in Christmas Square from November 30 to December 24. Activities include the opportunity to dress up and have your photo taken for a personalised Christmas card or to it can be shared on social media.
As we aim for a future free of roads deaths and serious injuries, we're asking all Victorians to take care on our roads and Be Present for Christmas because there is no one someone won’t miss.
